Halton Centre for Child Care
About Us
The Halton Centre for Child Care opened its doors in 1991.The Centre was established to provide high quality child care to the employees of the Halton Region, the Halton Police Services, and the broader community. HCCC is an inclusive Centre, enriching the lives of children aged 3 months to 4 years. In March 2024, we relocated and expanded to a new facility that was built in partnership with the Halton Region and is situated in the East Block at 1151 Bronte Road in Oakville.
We are a community-based, non-profit organization, licensed for 98 children. We are licensed under the Ministry of Education and operate under The Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014. A Board of Directors, comprised of parents, Regional Employees, Police Services, an Early Childhood Education (ECE) Representative, Community members and our Executive Director, governs Centre policies and practices. Our Executive Director manages day-to-day operations. Our classrooms are staffed with qualified Registered Early Childhood Educators.
We are also affiliated with local community Colleges offering placement opportunities for ECE students. We have 2 infant rooms, 2 toddler rooms and 2 preschool rooms. The children are grouped into the rooms by ages and “graduate” with similar aged classmates to the next room. In the year that a child is turning 4, they are eligible for the JK program in the schools, so they will need to graduate from HCCC by the end of that summer, in preparation to start the school year. Our centre opens at 7 and closes at 6pm. Our educators are available to welcome your child at any time that best suits your family’s needs within these hours. However, to ensure that your child benefits from our full program we would encourage you to have your child here by 9 am.
Our Mission Statement
To provide a responsive and nurturing learning environment for children in partnership with families and the community as a licensed non-profit child care centre.
Healthy Meal Options
Our on-site cook prepares well-balanced nutritious meals every day in accordance with Canada’s Food Guide. The cook shops for fresh organic fruits and vegetables daily and we take pride in the fact that our meats are also all organic. There are two menu changes each year; we have a winter/fall and spring/summer menu. Menus are designed around a four-week rotation; they include a morning snack, lunch and afternoon snack. They offer a variety of kid-friendly and culturally diverse flavours.
Current menus are available on the parent page of our website and are posted outside the kitchen on the wall or are available in hard copy from the office. Children are encouraged to try each food item served. Being polite and using age appropriate manners are encouraged and common practice. Picky eating can be a normal part of development, and we respect a child’s right to choose how much they consume.
Mealtimes offer a relaxed, small group atmosphere that can be rich in conversation; it is our aim to ensure that mealtimes are a positive experience for everyone.
Halton Centre for Child Care
Our Philosophy
We believe that each child is a unique human being, influenced by the values, customs, and behaviours of their family, peer group, significant others, and society. Each child has the right to grow and develop in a safe, caring, and stimulating environment. The development of self-esteem begins at birth, with early childhood experiences.
For children to grow and flourish, there are four foundations which children naturally seek for themselves: belonging, well-being, expression, and engagement. (How Does Learning Happen? Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years) We facilitate a child-based emergent curriculum, organized around the four foundations.
