Background
In November 2017, the Halton Centre for Child Care (HCCC) submitted a proposal as part of the Request for Community-Based Early Years and Child Care Capital Capital Program (CBCP) to Halton Region as the Consolidated Municipal Service Manager (CMSM) for the expansion of HCCC. The proposal, a joint project between Halton Region and HCCC, outlined the relocation, re-build and expansion of the current facility in alignment with the planned Halton Regional Centre renovation project.
HCCC received confirmation in May 2018 of the successful award of funding for the proposed expansion project. Halton Region also reported the successful application along with the other successful projects to Halton Regional Council at the May 23, 2018 Regular Meeting of Region Council as part of report SS-09-18. In March 2019 an Approval Letter was received from the Ministry on the plan submissions.

The new child care centre will be included as part of the Phase 2 construction under the Halton Regional Centre Site Redevelopment and Optimization Project, providing coordination and economies of scale benefits.
The facility will be a six room two story centre located at the north east corner of the Halton Regional Centre. Relocation and expansion of the existing child care facility will include two infant rooms, two toddler rooms, two preschool rooms and two playgrounds: ground level and rooftop.
While HCCC has been consulted on preliminary designs for the new facility, the decisions and approvals for the proposed design have been the sole discretion of Halton Region as the landlord for the space. HCCC is being recommended as the proposed child care operator of this new child care space.
The total project budget is estimated to be 7 million dollars, of which 3.08 million was awarded to HCCC through the provincial CBCP program. The Region of Halton, the landlord for the current and new facility, has successfully received an additional 4 million dollars from Regional Council on April 17th, 2019 (Report LPS47-19) to ensure successful completion of the project.
Current Facility
The Halton Centre is located on the South-East corner of the Regional Administration property. The Halton Centre is surrounded by mature trees and green space. Skylights and large windows flood the interior of the building with natural light. The entrance foyer opens up into our ‘gallery’. This great space is where the children enjoy their daily lunch prepared in our on-site kitchen, it also plays host to various extracurricular activities and indoor gross motor play. Classrooms are located off of our gallery area. Each classroom has direct access to a children’s washroom and/or change area. Our three playgrounds are located with direct access from the main building. Warm, cozy and welcoming are the feelings we create in this child inspired Centre.
Our centre is pleased to be participating in Canada Wide Early Learning Child Care Agreement( CWELCCA) and our fees have been reduced by 52.75%.
